Infrastructure Engineer

Position Overview

Tenstreet is a rapidly growing SaaS provider to the trucking industry. Our platform is hosted across our own hardware in a colocation facility and multiple cloud providers. The Infrastructure team is responsible for managing a highly scalable and secure environment, including the specification, purchase, implementation, administration, security, and monitoring of hardware, software, and third-party services. This is a hybrid role.

Our infrastructure engineering team possesses broad expertise in on-prem and cloud architecture, performance, security, system administration, network administration and analysis, database administration, automation, incident response, troubleshooting, access control, and audit.

The ideal candidate for this Infrastructure Engineer position is not expected to have deep experience with every specific tool and technology we use. Instead, we seek a candidate who demonstrates a proven ability to learn, implement, and manage new technologies. This individual should make sound decisions and be a proactive "doer." The Infrastructure Engineer will work within an established framework of standards and procedures while operating with significant autonomy and responsibility.

Responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities:

  • On-premises and cloud server and service administration, including designing, building, monitoring, and securing various Linux virtual servers and containers.
  • Managing our NetApp storage tier and other file servers.
  • Utilizing tools such as Ansible Automation Platform to automate routine activities, including server building and provisioning, administration tasks, and configuration management.
  • Collaborating with development and product teams to ensure infrastructure scalability and alignment with business needs.
  • Using monitoring and analysis tools like Datadog and Wazuh IDS to collect and analyze system performance metrics for capacity planning, proactive response, and troubleshooting.
  • Applying and overseeing information security controls across various operating environments.
  • Understanding and assisting in the management of our network infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, and third-party services such as Cloudflare for WAF/DDoS protection.

Broader Responsibilities:

  • Building and supporting resilient and scalable systems that achieve high availability.
  • Managing environmental and architectural changes with a focus on maximizing implementation pace without compromising security or functionality.
  • Identifying technological and procedural impediments within Tenstreet and devising solutions to improve company effectiveness.
  • Clearly communicating technical topics and concerns to diverse internal and external audiences.
  • Administering a variety of applications and services for both internal and external users.
  • Balancing the need to maintain ongoing operations with allocating time for system enhancements and new strategic initiatives.
  • Mentoring or training other team members and colleagues from different roles.
  • Participating in on-call rotations.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving production issues (hardware/software/applications).

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies, whether related to existing knowledge or not.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and work effectively both autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in Linux systems administration, preferably with a DevOps-oriented background.
