Requirements

Candidates must possess a J.D. and be licensed to practice law in the United States, with a minimum of 8 years of legal practice experience, including at least 3 years in-house at a technology company and 4+ years in a leadership role managing or building legal teams. Expertise in advising on complex regulatory and product questions in fast-moving, ambiguous environments, coupled with strong global regulatory awareness, particularly regarding AI, UGC, and content moderation, is required. Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate a proven track record of balancing risk and business needs in scaling environments and availability for meetings and communication during Quora’s coordination hours (9am-3pm Pacific Time).

Responsibilities

As the General Counsel, the individual will act as the primary legal partner for Quora’s product teams, providing pragmatic advice on new AI products and evolving user-generated content regulations, and own and oversee all aspects of Quora’s global legal operations, including corporate governance, IP, equity, and commercial transactions. They will identify and manage legal and regulatory risk across new and existing product areas, offering actionable guidance to drive product and business goals, build and lead a legal team, develop and maintain product policies, and serve as a key advisor to the executive team, collaborating cross-functionally to enable responsible growth.
