Requirements
Advanced knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems for heavy equipment and vehicles
Knowledge of vehicle body control systems, including hydraulics and electrical systems
Knowledge of heating and air conditioning systems to diagnose and repair complex systems
Knowledge of welding tools to fix heavy equipment
Ability to perform advanced preventive and repair maintenance functions on-site and on the road
Ability to road test vehicles to determine necessary repairs
Experience supervising technicians, including hiring/termination decisions, performance evaluations, coaching, counseling, and training
Responsibilities
Supervise technician team (A, B, C level, and lead technicians) for preventive maintenance/repair of fleet (trucks - diesel and alternate fuel), containers, heavy duty equipment, post-collection facility machinery, and container shop equipment
Provide direction to ensure all repairs/maintenance comply with company safety/compliance standards and federal/state regulations
Plan and schedule repair work to ensure safe, timely completion and reduce lost productivity
Monitor operational performance/efficiency and redirect activities as needed
Report to management on performance and recommend process/programmatic changes for improvement/efficiencies
Conduct daily shop huddles, fleet walks, coaching/counseling/training, performance evaluations, merit increase/promotion recommendations, and hiring/termination decisions with HR/management
Perform inspections of outside repairs and follow up to ensure compliance
Identify training opportunities, document issues, and discuss corrective actions with technicians
Conduct Quality Control Inspections, track issues/resolutions for compliance
Oversee repair diagnostics on complex matters, provide coaching, and road test vehicles
Oversee maintenance shop inventory control, ensure parts/equipment levels, manage purchases within budget, review/approve expenses, and refer larger ones to manager
Manage administrative matters: payroll, employee records, maintenance records in Dossier Software, budget preparation/submission, set departmental goals aligned with targets/objectives
