Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems to perform advanced preventive and repair maintenance on heavy equipment and vehicles
  • Knowledge of vehicle body control systems, including hydraulics and electrical systems, to maintain and repair vehicles in a timely and safe manner
  • Knowledge of heating and air conditioning systems to effectively diagnose and repair complex heating and cooling systems in vehicles
  • Knowledge of welding tools to fix heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a technician (mechanic) team responsible for preventive maintenance/repair of fleet vehicles (diesel and alternate fuel trucks), machinery supporting post-collection facilities, and equipment servicing the container shop
  • Provide direction to A, B, C level, and lead technicians to ensure all repair and maintenance work is performed safely, efficiently, and timely, in compliance with company safety/compliance standards and federal/state regulations
  • Plan and schedule repair work to ensure safe and timely completion, reducing lost productivity
  • Monitor operational performance and efficiency, redirect activities as needed, report to management on performance, and recommend process/programmatic changes for improvement
  • Supervise technicians including daily shop huddles, fleet walks, coaching/counseling/training, hiring/termination decisions with HR/management, performance evaluations, and recommendations for merit increases, promotions, or job changes
  • Perform inspections of outside repairs to ensure compliance with company procedures and regulations, with follow-up as needed
  • Identify training opportunities, document issues, and discuss corrective actions with technicians
  • Conduct Quality Control Inspections, track issues and resolutions to ensure compliance
  • Oversee repair diagnostics on complex matters, provide coaching, and road test vehicles as required
  • Oversee maintenance shop inventory control to maintain equipment/parts levels and stay within budget; review/approve expenses and refer larger ones to manager
  • Manage administrative matters including payroll, employee records, maintenance records in Dossier Maintenance Software, budget preparation/submission, and setting departmental goals aligned with targets/performance objectives
