Job Title: Field Service Engineer

Position Overview

Join our inquisitive team at Thermo Fisher Scientific, where we value exploration and discovery. This role focuses on providing sophisticated field service support and managing customer relationships within our Laboratory Equipment (LE) division.

Responsibilities

  • Repair, install, and maintain various Laboratory Equipment Products, including temperature monitoring, incubators, centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers, and cryogenic storage.
  • Work directly with customers to schedule visits, address their concerns, and provide reassurance while resolving their problems.
  • Complete learning assignments on time, read procedures, submit expense reports, and maintain spare part inventory.

Environmental Conditions

  • Able to lift 40 lbs. without assistance.
  • Laboratory Setting.
  • Some degree of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs etc.).

  • Field Service Engineers (FSEs) are remote colleagues who commute daily to customer sites to provide service.
  • FSEs are provided with a Company (Fleet) vehicle for daily travel to multiple customer locations in their defined service area.
  • Overnight Travel: Approximately 50% is required for servicing customers and participating in training programs. Expect up to 75% travel in the first year of employment for training.

Geographic Territory

  • Primary Territory: Louisiana and Southern Arkansas.
  • Ideal Candidate Location: New Orleans, Lafayette, or Baton Rouge.

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Minimum: High school diploma and 4+ years of related experience.
  • Preferred: Certification, Associate's, or Bachelor's in HVAC, electronics, or engineering, and 1 year of experience in field service, Depot repair, manufacturing facilities, or equivalent servicing medical devices or laboratory equipment.
  • Experience in customer-facing positions is preferred.
  • Experience working with basic test equipment (e.g., DMM, tachometer, temperature devices) and hands-on refrigeration experience is helpful.
