Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or related field strongly desired (pending degree or proven sales/industry experience may be considered)
Previous sales experience highly desired
Basic command of making nutritional and feeding recommendations to animal owners
Understanding of husbandry, current management practices, nutritional guidelines, general market, and industry knowledge
Work/life experience in management and care of animals
Strong background and previous professional experience with dairy and beef animals
Competent in providing accurate feeding and management recommendations
Strong computer skills, specifically MS Office, and ability to be trained on ration balancing software (HerdSmart), Salesforce, etc
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organization and time management skills
High internal drive, natural ability for relationship building, and leadership in a team environment
Ability to perform on-farm interactions in all weather types, including walk-throughs and animal evaluations
Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
Solid public speaking skills
Ability to network in the industry
Responsibilities
Calling on animal cattle & dairy owners to evaluate existing feeding programs and recommend/assist with nutritional programs
Selling/consulting at the farm gate (up to 25 farm calls per week) to sell Purina products/programs, grow sales and market share, including developing new prospects and making cold calls
Managing and growing an existing book of business with immediate access to established customer relationships and sales opportunities
Owning the territory with autonomy to build relationships, develop strategies, and drive results in a high-impact, field-based role
Leveraging Purina’s industry-leading research and product portfolio to deliver measurable value to customers and differentiate in the market
15% overnight travel, in addition to daily travel in the assigned geography
