Position Overview

Marqeta’s European Sales team is expanding, and we’re looking for a Director of Sales (Core) to lead significant commercial opportunities within our evolving business. This leadership role, based in the UK, will drive growth by managing a team focused on prominent digital banks, fintech disruptors, and embedded finance companies in the region. You will be responsible for building and scaling relationships with companies launching, growing, or transforming their card programs, helping them deliver next-generation banking experiences. Marqeta partners with innovative companies in Europe and North America to deliver Modern Card Issuing and Processing solutions, powering the transition to digital-first finance and embedded payments.

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Lead a team of 4+ Account Executives and Account Managers focused on acquiring and expanding relationships with large, high-impact organizations across fintech, banking, and embedded finance.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute a strategic sales plan aligned with key growth goals, expanding Marqeta’s presence across the UK and wider Europe.
  • Client Engagement: Identify and engage decision-makers at top-tier digital and traditional financial institutions, advising them on launching, scaling, and modernizing their card and payment solutions.
  • Product Expertise: Become a trusted expert in Marqeta’s platform, articulating technical value, solving customer challenges, and influencing complex buying decisions.
  • Forecasting & Reporting: Deliver accurate pipeline forecasts and performance updates, ensuring clear visibility into team progress and deal velocity.
  • Market Analysis: Monitor evolving customer needs, fintech market shifts, and the competitive landscape to continuously refine sales strategy.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Align with key internal teams, including Delivery, Strategy, and Partnerships, to unlock customer value and accelerate time to market.
  • Culture Development: Build and nurture a high-performing, inclusive sales culture by shaping hiring, coaching, and go-to-market best practices across your team.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in B2B sales and account management, with a consistent record of achieving and exceeding goals.
  • 2+ years of experience leading high-performing sales teams.
  • Strong domain knowledge in payments, fintech, banking, or financial services, with the confidence to navigate complex customer organizations.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex technology into clear, compelling business value.
  • A passion for innovation, customer success, and building the future of financial services.
  • Card issuing experience is preferred.
