Symbotic is seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Operations (Southeast) to provide operational leadership across multiple customer sites within its distribution network. This role is crucial for developing high-performing teams, ensuring customer satisfaction, and driving operational excellence. About the Role

The Director of Operations is part of the Customer Operations organization, responsible for the day-to-day operations of Symbotic’s robotic material handling system. This role drives operational excellence by partnering with onsite customers to achieve best-in-class quality, safety, and system performance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple warehouse and customer site operations, ensuring alignment with business goals and customer expectations.
  • Partner with Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (SIOP) teams to validate warehouse capacity planning and scalability.
  • Drive achievement of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) through action planning, continuous improvement initiatives, and performance reviews.
  • Build strong, long-term relationships with customer leadership teams through regular communication, performance reviews, and transparency.
  • Translate customer needs and feedback into operational enhancements, process changes, or continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to drive issue resolution and service excellence.
  • Analyze workloads and allocate resources effectively to optimize productivity.
  • Oversee staffing plans, recruitment, performance evaluations, training, and team development.
  • Implement and enforce operational policies and procedures for safety, compliance, and efficiency.
  • Lead special projects, including scaling automated systems and digital warehousing solutions.
  • Manage project timelines and budgets, aligning with internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Operations, Supply Chain, or a related field; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in operations, logistics, or supply chain management.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience with automated systems, material handling, or digital warehouse technologies (preferred).
  • Proven success managing multi-site operations and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative, agile, and innovative operational culture.
  • Strong leadership, team development, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience in resource planning, project management, and budget oversight.
  • Proficiency in analyzing operational data, identifying trends, and implementing improvements.
  • Strong understanding of compliance standards and safety protocols.

Our Environment

  • This is a remote, field-based position.
  • Travel is required 50% to 75% of the time.
  • Employee must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to client and customer locations.
  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally for reimbursement.
  • The role requires performing work at customer installation locations for extended periods for equipment commissioning.
  • Headquarters are in Wilmington, MA.
