Position Overview

Relay is seeking a highly creative, empathetic, and analytical Director of Product Marketing to lead our growing Product Marketing team. Our mission is to increase the success rate of small businesses by transforming traditional banking into a growth enabler. Relay offers an all-in-one, collaborative money management platform designed for employer SMBs and their finance functions, prioritizing a human-centric customer experience. We aim to help SMBs be ‘on the money’.

The Product Marketing team at Relay is hyper-focused on ensuring our small business customers derive maximum value from our platform. This role will drive Relay’s Product Marketing strategy, champion the voice of our customers, and build a strong product marketing organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Go-to-Market Strategies: Drive go-to-market strategies for new features and product launches, managing a team of product marketers responsible for key product lines and features (e.g., core banking, expense management).
  • Team Leadership & Development: Hire, train, and develop a high-performing Product Marketing team, supporting team members' growth and professional development.
  • Customer Advocacy: Build a deep understanding of Relay’s customers and champion the voice of the customer in all product marketing initiatives.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build strong relationships with key stakeholders in product, sales, demand generation, enablement, customer success, and other critical teams.
  • Messaging & Positioning: Own Relay’s messaging and positioning, making necessary improvements and updates. Leverage customer knowledge to craft positioning and messaging that resonates with the market and users.
  • Product Roadmap Influence: Inform and help develop the product roadmap by providing core insights on customer pain points and jobs to be done.
  • Market Intelligence: Conduct comprehensive customer, market, and competitive analysis using qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Planning & Reporting: Own quarterly/annual planning, metrics, and KPI reporting for product marketing.
  • Strategic Influence: Lead with influence and act as a player-coach for the team.

Requirements

  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in product marketing, ideally within a startup environment.
  • Management Experience: At least 5 years of management experience, with responsibility for a Product Marketing team's performance.
  • Product Launch Success: Proven track record of successfully launching and driving adoption for new products or features, with the ability to articulate tangible business and customer outcomes.
  • Storytelling Skills: Exceptional ability to craft and tell compelling stories that influence cross-functional stakeholders and customers.
  • Customer Centricity: A passion for engaging with and deeply understanding customers, translating insights into compelling messaging and product ideas.
  • Trusted Resource: Recognized as a trusted resource for customer, product, and release-related inquiries, and for effective product marketing and sales strategies.
  • Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to build strong partnerships with cross-functional stakeholders, viewing stakeholder management as a key responsibility.
  • Project Management: Superior project management skills, with the ability to lead and influence multiple cross-functional partners to drive urgency and meet objectives and deadlines.
  • Independence: Ability to determine KPIs and work independently.
