Requirements

Candidates must possess a strong technical background with a minimum of 7 years of hands-on software development experience and at least 3 years in an engineering management or people management role. Experience staffing and managing multiple, coordinating development teams is essential, along with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects to meet business and engineering objectives. Proven experience in instituting clear, measurable, and effective engineering processes, overseeing at least one major software project from concept to delivery, and possessing outstanding communication and documentation skills are required. Candidates should be self-motivated, able to work independently with minimal supervision, exhibit strong problem-solving skills, and be willing and able to work with external teams in varying time zones. Comfort working in a fully remote environment is also necessary. Desired qualifications include experience with translation/transcription software, cloud-based solutions, microservice architectures, CI/CD tools, and dedicated QA teams, as well as a B.S. in Computer Science or a related field.

Responsibilities

The Director Customer Experience will lead the Customer Experience engineering group, responsible for delivering high-quality, scalable translation and translation-adjacent features. This includes managing multiple cross-functional software development teams working on various product features in parallel, and collaborating closely with product managers, engineering managers, technical leads, and other stakeholders to devise and maintain project milestones and schedules. The role involves ensuring engineering milestones stay within scope and are delivered on time, identifying and managing risks creatively, and regularly communicating project status to senior management and stakeholders. Additionally, the Director will foster a healthy, collaborative workplace environment, support direct reports' professional growth through 1-on-1s, career goal setting, and constructive feedback, and delegate responsibilities effectively. Instituting good engineering processes to streamline the development lifecycle and ensuring teams have the necessary resources to meet objectives with minimal friction are key responsibilities. The Director may also occasionally assist with small development tasks or brainstorm solutions to complex problems.
