Position Summary

This role is a key customer-facing position within the Business Unit (BU), working closely with the BU Commercial Leader and other Commercial Directors. The primary focus is on leading customer accounts, managing pricing, and forecasting revenue to drive commercial success. This position owns vital business processes and systems, driving business expansion for the current customer portfolio across a global network.

The role emphasizes leadership through role modeling, proactive performance management, mentorship, and focused engagement to attract, retain, and develop talent.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining ongoing responsibility over all aspects of customer business management, including:
    • Communications
    • Contract compliance
    • Financials
    • Scopes of work
    • Timelines
    • Risk analysis
    • Governance structure
    • Conflict resolution
  • Acting as an advisor to sites and becoming actively involved as required to resolve problems.
  • Exercising consistent independent judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for acquiring solutions.
  • Developing strong positions for all late-phase and commercial opportunities to assist in shaping a comprehensive business/asset strategy and supporting the portfolio perspective.
  • Enabling outstanding quotations and agreements with existing customers, and supporting the sales team in closing opportunities with current customers if needed.
  • Ensuring strong foundational business relationships with clients by building and implementing growth and governance strategies.
  • Advocating for clients, influencing internal teams (PSG), improving operations, and balancing customer and organizational priorities.
  • Contributing ideas for important projects like cross-selling and marketing approaches.
  • Ensuring the development and implementation of BU-level processes and tools for:
    • Governance models
    • Customer dashboards including key performance indicators (KPIs)
    • PPI partnership approaches
    • Costing
    • Risk mitigation strategies

Key Responsibilities (Detailed)

  • Lead mid and long-range revenue forecasting.
  • Ensure team compliance with BM policies and mentor and upskill talent within the team.
  • Lead customer communications and contract compliance while maintaining strong business relationships with clients and communicating customer concerns to leadership.
  • Influence across PSG for improved operational performance.
  • Align governance models, customer dashboards, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Participate in BU reporting and business review meetings.
  • Advise sites to resolve customer problems.

Qualifications

  • BS/Masters Degree in a life sciences field. An M.B.A. is preferred.
  • Experience: 10+ years of experience, with 5-8 years in commercial strategy, business management, project management, supply chain, sales, or marketing.
  • Skills:
    • Strong Financial skills and P&L understanding.
    • Routine use of MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Word is important.
    • Pharmaceutical or Contract Manufacturing experience is preferred.
    • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
    • Experience with budgeting and forecasting.
    • Proven track record to function effectively in a matrixed organization.
    • Ability to lead multiple priorities simultaneously.
