SweedPos, a product-driven startup building an all-in-one cannabis retail platform, is seeking a Data Tech Lead. This role will be responsible for building and scaling the data platform that powers client-facing analytics and core ML functionality.

Team Structure

The total team size is approximately 180 people. The development team is globally distributed and organized into cross-functional product teams of 8-12 members, including front-end and back-end developers, QA specialists, and analysts. Each team is led by a Team Lead and a Product Owner. The CEO, account managers, and customer success team are based in the USA.

Why This Role Matters

Data is a critical product at Sweed, powering customer-facing analytics and ML-driven features. The data platform needs to be fast, reliable, and scalable. This role is for an experienced data platform engineer and technical leader who can manage complexity, build high-availability systems, and scale with the business. This position involves owning a critical production system, bringing operational maturity, and scaling processes alongside technology.

Responsibilities

  • Own the architecture and evolution of the data platform (currently: ClickHouse, DBT, Dagster, Airbyte, Debezium), with an upcoming migration to Snowflake.
  • Lead the development of production-grade data infrastructure for the client-facing reporting suite, emphasizing reliability and uptime.
  • Implement and manage high-availability, observable pipelines with clear SLAs and incident processes.
  • Collaborate with ML, backend, and product teams to understand data needs.
  • Manage data cost structure: monitor query performance, optimize storage and compute usage, and manage Snowflake cost strategies.
  • Introduce and maintain operational best practices, including incident management, data SLAs, access control, testing, and monitoring.
  • Hire, grow, and mentor a small team of data engineers and analysts.
  • Drive vendor/tooling decisions, balance build vs. buy, and lead key migrations (e.g., Snowflake).
  • Act as a strong partner to product and executive teams, demonstrating technical depth and business awareness.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in data engineering/platform roles.
  • 2+ years in a technical/team lead capacity.
  • Experience with modern data stacks, including ClickHouse, DBT, Dagster, Airbyte, Debezium.
  • Experience with Snowflake is expected due to an upcoming migration.
