  • Employment Type: Full-Time
  • Salary: Not specified
  • Job Title: Bioinformatician / Computational Biologist
  • Description: We are seeking a skilled Bioinformatician / Computational Biologist to analyze and mine genome-wide next-generation sequencing datasets (single cell and bulk RNAseq, ATAC-seq, etc.) to gain insights into stem cell & ovarian cell biology. You will collaborate with a team of bioinformaticians and bench scientists to deliver scientific results, data visualizations, and translate computational findings into experimental designs. This role involves running and maintaining automated bioinformatics pipelines, interpreting complex low-input datasets, and identifying new hypotheses for laboratory testing.

Requirements

  • Education: PhD in computational biology, genomics, systems biology, or related field, or Master's degree + 1-3 years of industry experience.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Highly proficient in R, Python, and Bash.
    • Strong data analysis skills (data cleaning, QC, basic statistical principles, hypothesis generation).
    • Proficiency in analyzing RNA-seq data, including experience with single-cell RNAseq packages/workflows/algorithms.
    • Experience building and running automated preprocessing workflows for various data types (scRNAseq or ATAC-seq).
    • Proficiency in version control (e.g., Git).
    • Experience with high-performance computing clusters and/or cloud computing environments.
  • Experience:
    • Prior experience translating computational findings into testable hypotheses and experimental designs.
    • Strong communication skills, particularly with diverse audiences.
    • Prior experience with a high performance computing cluster and/or cloud computing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Functionally interact with Conception’s computational infrastructure (databases, pipelines, HPC cluster, etc.).
  • Contribute to team code bases, adhering to best practices for documentation and version control.
  • Collaborate with biology teams to independently perform analysis projects using both in-house and publicly available data.
  • Analyze ‘omics’ data for a broad range of projects.
  • Identify ways to leverage computational data towards new biological hypotheses and scientific directions.
  • Develop custom solutions to interesting biological problems.

Company Information

  • Company Mission: Conception is a startup focused on generating viable human eggs from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs).
  • Research Focus: Deriving human germ cells from iPSCs to enable age-limited motherhood, egg screening for genetic mutations, and same-sex couple reproduction.
  • Research Activities: Creation of ovarian organoids to aid egg development.
  • Location: Silicon Valley
  • Benefits: Competitive pay, equity, excellent healthcare benefits, and a collaborative research environment.
  • Additional Information: Research has been conducted in mice, and the work is now being translated to humans. Two features have been published by The New Yorker and MIT Technology Review.

Conception

Biotech firm developing egg cells from blood

About Conception

Conception.bio focuses on improving fertility treatments through advanced biotechnology. The company has developed a method to create viable egg cells from blood samples by transforming induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) into mature egg cells. This process allows women to extend their fertility, provides new options for couples facing infertility, and enables genetic screening of embryos to avoid hereditary diseases. Unlike other fertility treatment providers, Conception.bio directly serves individuals and couples, including same-sex male couples, with a unique approach to egg cell development. The goal is to lead the fertility treatment market by offering effective solutions that address the diverse needs of those seeking to conceive.
