Cloud Operations Engineer II

Position Overview

Join Varicent as a Cloud Operations Engineer II to support and scale our cloud infrastructure for global clients using our Incentive Compensation Management (ICM) SaaS platform. This role involves close collaboration with Cloud Engineers, Support, Dev, and QA teams to deploy new features, manage incidents, and drive performance at scale. The position offers a blend of automation, hands-on cloud work, and problem-solving within a fast-moving, global team. AWS experience is highly preferred.

The Team

You will be part of a tight-knit, high-performing CloudOps team that values collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement. We operate at a fast pace, tackle significant challenges, and support each other.

Requirements

  • 2+ years in a CloudOps / DevOps role
  • Strong experience with AWS (Azure/IBM Cloud a plus)
  • Scripting/automation skills (Python, Bash, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker/K8s), Linux/Windows servers
  • Knowledge of monitoring, logging, DNS, VPN, databases (SQL)
  • Experience managing production incidents and supporting client-facing systems
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to work in a team, and a fast learner
  • Advanced English is required

Responsibilities

  • Manage and improve cloud infrastructure and services
  • Automate operations to enhance reliability and scale
  • Support deployments, releases, and service enhancements
  • Lead incident response and root cause analysis
  • Collaborate globally and adapt to rotating coverage schedules

Short-Term Goals (1-3 Months)

  • Complete training on our tech stack and join a squad of cloud engineers to support, optimize, and improve our production environments.
  • Learn our service observability and application performance monitoring stack.
  • Familiarize yourself with our customer-focused service requests workflows and technologies.

Medium-Term Goals (4-6 Months)

  • Master our customer-focused service requests workflows to resolution.
  • Continuously monitor and tune application infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, availability, and resource utilization.
  • Collaborate with application teams to automate application configuration changes, setup, and deployment.

Long-Term Goals (7 Months & Beyond)

  • Become the subject matter expert in our core support service request workflows, documenting and implementing enhancement ideas.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for new features or enhancements you build, propagating knowledge throughout the team.
  • Participate in technical discussions and design for new projects.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process change within the team and work with stakeholders to improve operations workflows.
