Requirements

Candidates should possess a Juris Doctor degree and be admitted to practice law in at least one U.S. state, with experience advising on privacy and security matters relating to online platforms preferred. Strong leadership and management experience are required, along with a proven track record of enabling successful cross-departmental collaboration and developing legal professionals. Experience working with online communities and a deep understanding of privacy and security regulations are also necessary.

Responsibilities

The Associate General Counsel will advise the Deputy General Counsel and Senior Leadership team on legal and regulatory matters, particularly concerning privacy and security, and will collaborate with legal department staff to refine the Foundation’s privacy strategy and infrastructure. They will manage a team providing transactional and product counseling support to engineers and technologists, strengthening internal workflows and improving collaboration on legal advice. Additionally, the role involves overseeing an annual refresh of the Wikimedia Foundation Privacy Policy and leading communication campaigns to educate stakeholders.
