Requirements

Candidates should possess a Juris Doctor degree and be admitted to practice law in at least one U.S. state, with experience advising online platforms, particularly in the areas of privacy and security. Strong leadership and management experience are required, along with a track record of enabling successful cross-departmental collaboration and developing legal professionals. Experience working with online communities and a deep understanding of privacy and security regulations are also essential.

Responsibilities

The Associate General Counsel will advise the Deputy General Counsel and Senior Leadership team on legal and regulatory matters, specifically pertaining to privacy and security, and manage a team providing transactional and product counseling support for engineers/technologists. They will also work to define and shape a renewed vision and strategy for the Foundation’s privacy team, oversee an annual refresh of the Wikimedia Foundation Privacy Policy, and strengthen internal workflows related to product counseling and engineering-related legal advice.
