Position Overview

This role is crucial for creating dynamic multimedia content using innovative generative tools, aiming to reach new audiences and elevate visual storytelling. The ideal candidate will be highly creative and experimental, leveraging generative AI to produce compelling, scalable content across editorial, branded, and digital platforms. This position sits within the Multimedia team, collaborating with various departments to produce high-quality, brand-safe content and prototype new storytelling formats while upholding journalistic integrity and legal standards. A hands-on approach is essential.

Key Responsibilities

AI-Enhanced Multimedia Content Creation

  • Produce videos, illustrations, animations, and visual explainers using tools such as Runway, Pika, HeyGen, Synthesia, Descript, and Canva.
  • Ensure all content is visually polished, platform-optimized, and aligns with Newsweek’s brand and editorial standards.
  • Adapt outputs for various channels, including web, YouTube, Instagram, and other social platforms.

Prompt Engineering & Workflow Innovation

  • Write optimized prompts to generate high-quality results across GenAI platforms for image, text, video, and voice, including ChatGPT and ElevenLabs.
  • Prototype and test emerging tools to improve speed, quality, and production scalability.
  • Build repeatable AI workflows to increase output efficiency and reduce bottlenecks.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with producers, editors, and designers across the multimedia, editorial, and content teams.
  • Integrate visuals seamlessly into larger content packages, including explainer pieces, news stories, and social posts.
  • Coordinate with product and technology teams to ensure AI-generated content can be surfaced and integrated into website infrastructure.
  • Stay responsive to the needs of multiple stakeholders while maintaining creative standards.

AI Standards, Legal & Ethical Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with copyright, fair use, and GenAI legal guidance in all content.
  • Follow ethical best practices in GenAI storytelling, including proper labeling, attribution, and bias mitigation.
  • Maintain a working understanding of how each tool generates its outputs and related risks.

Knowledge Sharing & Enablement

  • Create prompt libraries, templates, and internal guides for GenAI tools.
  • Support training efforts across editorial and multimedia teams through demos, tips, or documentation.
  • Serve as a go-to resource for GenAI experimentation and best practices within the newsroom.
  • Undertake any other requirements that meet the needs of the business.

Qualifications

Required Experience

  • Significant experience in visual content creation, multimedia, or digital journalism, with relevant experience using GenAI tools.
  • A portfolio demonstrating AI-generated visuals and/or experimental formats.
  • Enthusiasm for staying ahead of trends in AI, multimedia, and digital storytelling.

Technical Fluency

  • Proficiency in tools including ChatGPT, Pika, Runway, HeyGen, Synthesia, Descript, Photoshop, Canva, and ElevenLabs.
  • Understanding of prompt engineering, multi-tool workflows, and content optimization for digital platforms.
