Candidates must have at least 7 years of engineering management experience, including 3 years managing multiple teams or managers, and a proven track record of scaling engineering organizations from 20 to over 100 engineers. Experience managing both new product development and legacy system maintenance is essential, along with a deep understanding of modern software architecture, cloud platforms (AWS preferred), and DevOps practices. Strong leadership skills are required, including a track record of delivering complex multi-team projects on schedule, experience establishing engineering metrics and data-driven decision making, strong recruiting and talent development capabilities, and exceptional communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences. Bonus points include SaaS B2B experience, experience with compliance frameworks (SOC2, HIPAA), background managing distributed/remote teams, and experience balancing AI/ML initiatives with traditional software development.
The Vice President of Engineering will lead multiple engineering teams across different product lines, balancing innovation initiatives while maintaining stable, mission-critical systems. They will shape the architectural vision, ensure technical excellence, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver scalable, secure, and impactful technology for strategic philanthropy and life sciences departments. Responsibilities include managing a 30+ person engineering organization, driving delivery through efficient resource allocation and impediment elimination, recruiting, developing, and retaining top engineering talent, and optimizing team structures. The role also involves shaping engineering strategy, establishing and enforcing standards for performance, scale, security, and reliability, balancing innovation with technical debt management, and continuously improving engineering processes. Additionally, the VP will partner with Product, Sales, and executive leadership to align engineering with business objectives, communicate technical strategy and risks, and coordinate dependencies across teams to deliver projects on time and budget.
