Requirements

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience and 4-6 years of clinical nursing or therapy experience. An active RN license is required, along with 1-2 years of experience in utilization review, case management, and/or managed care regulations. Preferred qualifications include experience with MCG Guidelines, InterQual, or other clinical decision support tools, especially in utilization management and prior authorization processes. Candidates must be located in Michigan, able to pass background checks and drug screens, willing to travel up to 30%, and able to work additional hours as needed. They must also adhere to security policies and be able to view a computer screen for extended periods.

Responsibilities

The Utilization Review Clinician is responsible for reviewing medical records to determine medical necessity, conducting patient evaluations, managing admissions, and ensuring post-discharge visits occur within the required timeframe. They assess requests for post-acute services using clinical guidelines, build relationships with healthcare providers, and coordinate care with facilities. Responsibilities include conducting prior authorization and continued stay reviews, approving services in compliance with guidelines, and collaborating with case managers and medical directors. The role involves participating in team meetings, educational activities, and interrater reliability testing, as well as ensuring compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards. They will also support payer programs, make benefit determinations, coordinate benefits, and utilize knowledge of healthcare system resources.
