Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree preferred or demonstrated consistent success in prior Underwriting roles, evidenced by satisfactory case management and quality reviews. A minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience is required, along with analytical skills and the ability to make independent decisions on complex cases, applying sound judgment and utilizing established rules. Strong written and oral communication skills, proficiency in computer skills, and the ability to work accurately while maintaining speed and flexibility are also necessary.
The Underwriting Consultant will build relationships with Financial Advisors and internal partners, providing guidance and assistance regarding case underwriting and risk appraisal. They will analyze and appraise insurance applications, approve or decline them based on established standards, solve complex problems and escalations, and utilize advanced UW knowledge to mentor other underwriters. The role involves active case and requirement management, customized service, and communicating and negotiating with Field Partners to explain decisions and assist in policy placement. Additionally, the consultant will actively obtain necessary information, collaborate with medical directors and technical staff, adhere to procedures and regulatory processes, meet quality, service, and production goals, and participate in projects and department initiatives.
