Responsibilities

  • Report to the Production Manager on Information Technology, maintenance, and support issues within the printing plant
  • Direct daily maintenance and support functions for pressroom, mailroom, building, and IT infrastructure to meet customer expectations for reproduction quality, content freshness, productivity, and cost-effective materials consumption
  • Implement corporate technology direction including desktop, server, telephony, network architectures, and messaging
  • Communicate effectively to ensure maintenance programs are effective, achieve high quality, and are prioritized for production quality requirements
  • Direct technology services and machinist staff to assist press room/mail room managers in improving the Production Quality Score (reproduction quality, content freshness, productivity, cost-effective materials consumption)
  • Assist in developing budget criteria for the department as directed by the production manager
  • Direct staff associated with building operations (through appropriate manager) to maintain building assets, preserving shareholder value and enabling effective operation of building systems
  • Direct activities of maintenance staff through direct reports, supervisors, and foremen to ensure equipment is maintained via preventive maintenance programs and accurate, timely records
  • Develop and maintain open communication with employees, emphasizing department goals and objectives
  • Administer local labor agreements and company management guidelines/policies in coordination with the production manager
  • Provide ongoing training and development on all job functions within technology services, machinist, or machinist/building departments
  • Develop and deliver written performance reviews and development plans to staff annually (with production manager oversight, unless prohibited by union contract)
  • Maintain accurate and timely written records of employee performance and disciplinary issues
  • Make salary recommendations for production manager approval
  • Hire, train, develop, and maintain a diverse, highly-skilled staff
  • Assist production manager in implementing policies/practices for compliance with local, state, federal laws, equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, safety, and environmental requirements
  • Employ best performance practices, continuous improvement processes/procedures, staff schedules, and effective staff development to achieve results in IT and mechanical operations maintenance/support
