Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (for Technician Associate and Technician; GED for Technician Senior)
  • Associate Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Civil/Mechanical Engineering Technology or related fields (preferred or required depending on level)
  • Related utility industry work experience: 2 years (Technician Associate), 2 years with Associate Degree or 4 years with high school diploma (Technician), 4 years with Associate Degree or 6 years with high school diploma/GED including technical engineering knowledge (Technician Senior)
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Meets expectations of lower levels (for Technician and Technician Senior)
  • Physical ability to walk rights-of-way in adverse conditions, carry/handle tools weighing up to 11 pounds, use brush axe or machete (varies by location)

Responsibilities

  • Perform intermediate level technical work in planning, engineering, design, analysis, research, development, testing, construction, maintenance, and operation of company equipment and facilities
  • Apply technical knowledge from associate degree in relevant engineering technology fields, standards, codes, regulations, equipment, materials, systems, and business processes
  • Assist in handling defined portions of routine problems
  • Demonstrate basic computer literacy, knowledge, and skills
  • Perform work activities as assigned and coached by higher level employees, working collaboratively and seeking assistance as needed
  • Plan work per AEP standard practices, prioritize routine tasks, and maintain accurate records
  • Resolve problems using technical knowledge and experience, showing initiative to improve processes and skills; compile, analyze, and interpret information
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal/external customers; assist in preparing technical reports and papers; act as a team player
  • Develop decision-making skills based on judgment and job knowledge; understand local organizational roles and responsibilities
