Requirements

Candidates should have 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 5 years focused on data systems, including databases, pipelines, and infrastructure. Experience working with very large-scale datasets (hundreds of millions to billions of rows), strong SQL skills, and proficiency in Python for building production-grade systems are required. Familiarity with event-driven and real-time data architectures, data quality, governance, and compliance principles, along with strong technical leadership and communication skills are also necessary. Experience scaling production datastores and managing safe, low-disruption data migrations is essential.

Responsibilities

The Staff Software Engineer will lead the growth and optimization of datastores such as MySQL, MongoDB, and ClickHouse to handle production workloads reliably. They will design and execute safe migrations between datastores and schemas with minimal disruption, and extend query systems to ensure reliable query execution across large datasets. Responsibilities include championing event-driven patterns to enable real-time updates, defining schemas and norms for data capture and usage, and building infrastructure and tooling to empower application engineers. The role also involves acting as a domain authority on data systems, mentoring engineers, setting technical direction, and proactively identifying and implementing improvements to the data stack.
