Requirements

Candidates must possess 8+ years of professional experience developing and shipping Android apps, demonstrating expert-level Kotlin programming skills and deep knowledge of modern Android architectures such as MVVM, MVI, RxJava/Coroutines/Flow, Jetpack Compose, and common third-party libraries. They should have experience with collaborative development on complex shared codebases, proficiency with Git, branching, CI/CD, and standard code review workflows, and a strong focus on quality through unit and manual testing. Furthermore, candidates should be able to own projects, design technical solutions, drive implementation, and deliver results with minimal guidance, along with proven ability to mentor other engineers and enhance developer productivity. Solid computer science fundamentals and design patterns are also required, as well as experience with Agile/Scrum processes, systems architecture, and performance optimization.

Responsibilities

The Staff Android Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality code for the Oura Android app, collaborating closely with Product Managers and Designers to drive projects forward. They will work cross-functionally with backend, firmware, data science, research, science, and QA teams, and partner with Android engineers across the US and EU to improve the Android codebase. Additionally, the role involves leading architecture and design discussions, technical and code reviews, and platform enhancements, as well as mentoring and guiding Android engineers across various teams and squads.
