Our engineering team comprises talented Android and iOS developers across the EU and US, collaborating closely regardless of location. Engineers work in autonomous, cross-functional squads, taking full ownership of their projects from conception to maintenance. Oura has offices in San Francisco and San Diego for those who prefer hybrid or office settings. Oura employees in other major cities (like Boston and New York) occasionally gather informally at local co-working locations.

We’re looking for a passionate Staff Android Engineer to build and maintain key features in our Android app. Join a team that’s dedicated to Oura’s mission, product, and user experience, and push the boundaries of wearable technology.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional experience developing and shipping Android apps.
• Expert-level Kotlin programming with deep knowledge of modern Android architectures (MVVM, MVI, etc.), RxJava/Coroutines/Flow, Jetpack Compose, and common third-party libraries.
• Experience with collaborative development on complex shared codebases.
• Proficiency with Git, branching, CI/CD, and standard code review workflows.
• Strong focus on quality through unit and manual testing.
• Ability to own projects, design technical solutions, drive implementation, and deliver results with minimal guidance.
• Proven ability to mentor other engineers and enhance developer productivity.
• Strong experience with Agile/Scrum processes, systems architecture, and performance optimization.
• Solid computer science fundamentals and design patterns.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality code for the Oura Android app.
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers and Designers to drive projects forward.
• Work cross-functionally with backend, firmware, data science, research, science, and QA teams.
• Partner with Android engineers across the US and EU to improve the Android codebase.
• Lead architecture and design discussions, technical and code reviews, and platform enhancements.
• Mentor and guide Android engineers across various teams and squads.

Preferred Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional experience developing and shipping Android apps.
• Experience with Dagger, Realm, JNI, C++, PyTorch, TypeScript, or Kotlin Multiplatform.
• Experience working asynchronously across time zones.
• Experience with firmware and companion hardware devices.
• Experience developing health, wellness, fitness, or women’s health products.
• Experience with ML algorithms.
