This role is for a Staff Android Engineer to contribute to the evolution of Firefox for Android, an open-source browser with over 100 million downloads. The engineer will influence architecture, mentor others, and guide technical direction for a product aligned with Mozilla's values of openness, innovation, and privacy. The goal is to build high-impact software and foster a healthier internet.

Responsibilities

  • Design, debug, build, and ship medium to large-scale Android solutions promoting a healthy and inclusive internet.
  • Drive engineering decisions and feature development with a focus on user value.
  • Join a dedicated, diverse, and distributed team responsible for Firefox mobile applications and open-source Android components.
  • Collaborate with partners to define scope, clarify requirements, and drive initiatives.
  • Communicate the engineering development perspective and discuss complex topics with both technical and non-technical team members.
  • Define and maintain quality standards through code reviews, bug fixing, testing, and coding practices.
  • Work with Gecko teams to integrate browser functionality into Android.
  • Address problems across various layers, from Java APIs to JavaScript and the C++ browser engine.
  • Provide solutions and feedback to the open-source community to improve Android solutions and support Mozilla's manifesto.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience building complex Android applications for a diverse user base using Java, Kotlin, and/or C++.
  • Proven ability to resolve problems, signal risks, foster change, and facilitate collaborative decision-making.
  • Passion for building excellent products with a strong sense of ownership from design through bug resolution.
  • Proficiency in modern programming practices (code review, unit testing, automation).
  • Rust programming experience and knowledge is a plus.
  • Ability to lead developers and collaborate effectively in a fast-paced environment to deliver high-quality, well-designed, reusable code on time.
  • Proactive in asking questions and proposing insights for positive impact.
  • Desire to work with, learn from, and grow with a talented team.
