Requirements

  • Deep expertise in fermentation scale-up
  • Hands-on experience designing, optimizing, and transferring fermentation processes from demo scale (100L–300L) to commercial manufacturing (5K-30K liters)
  • Strong technical foundation in bioreactor operations, downstream processing, and process scale-up methodologies
  • Experience translating demo plant learnings into reliable, commercial-scale processes
  • Ability to act as a technical leader, driving process development and mentoring junior engineers

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement scalable bioreactor operating and control strategies (batch, fed-batch, continuous)
  • Design and execute scale-up strategies applying principles such as OTR, KLa, impeller design, and mixing dynamics
  • Translate demo plant data into robust commercial manufacturing processes, leading technology transfer efforts
  • Lead daily operations of fermentation and downstream unit operations in the Houston demo facility
  • Support commissioning, qualification, and start-up of new demo-scale and commercial equipment
  • Provide hands-on troubleshooting and process optimization support in real time
  • Design and analyze experiments using DoE/statistical methods to drive yield, consistency, and product quality improvements
  • Lead downstream process optimization including centrifugation, filtration (TFF), freeze drying, and spray drying
  • Develop SOPs, batch records, and operational narratives to support R&D, Quality, and Manufacturing teams
  • Mentor junior engineers and scientists, fostering a culture of technical excellence
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, QA/QC, Manufacturing, Regulatory) to ensure smooth process integration
  • Communicate technical findings and project updates effectively
