Position Overview
Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking an experienced manufacturing leader to lead the Liquid Manufacturing Department for the production and supply of biopharmaceutical products. This role reports directly to the Sr. Director, Operations & Site for Thermo Fisher Scientific’s BioProduction Group, located in Grand Island, NY. The position requires a driven focus on meeting customer needs in a demanding regulatory and research environment, while leading and coordinating all manufacturing operations across the Liquid Value Stream. The goal is to ensure the Liquid Value Stream functions at peak efficiency with accurate communications and interfaces, developing operations and manufacturing leadership teams, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality products in compliance with all applicable customer, business, and regulatory requirements.
Key Objectives
- EHS Leadership: Lead and drive Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) in manufacturing to achieve world-class metrics on recordable and lost-time incidents. Develop processes to identify and eliminate risks through engineered solutions.
- Operational Excellence: Establish and improve the organization and processes to produce products in a timely, cost-effective, and quality manner for the Biologicals and Chemicals and Biosciences Divisions.
- Resource Management: Assess resource needs across the Liquid Value Stream by working with site and functional leaders to assign resources per established priorities.
- Culture & Development: Provide leadership to achieve goals and create a culture of belonging, accountability, continuous improvement, and adherence to our 4i Values - Integrity, Intensity, Innovation, and Involvement.
- Performance Drive: Drive performance to achieve and exceed financial targets through quality, cost efficiency, and productivity.
- KPIs & Visibility: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to inspire change and provide the team with visibility and leadership. Track, trend, and analyze data to target and obtain results.
- Succession Planning: Develop a succession strategy and improve bench strength by facilitating and mentoring manufacturing organization leaders to be both exceptional players and coaches.
- HR Partnership: Partner with HR on hiring and training initiatives.
- Performance Management: Prepare and lead, coach, and conduct annual performance reviews of manufacturing leaders. Define and establish clear objectives and expectations, and routinely provide direct feedback for performance management and development.
- Budgeting & Metrics: Lead department budgeting, scheduling, and achievement of key operating metrics.
- Profitability & Supply Improvement: Identify projects and recommend appropriate courses of action (e.g., discontinuation, outsourcing, process improvement) to improve profitability and supply.
- Risk Management: Implement robust Risk Management practices to maintain a high probability of project success, ensuring satisfaction of scope, schedule, and budget.
- New Product Introduction: Ensure effective transfers of new products into production that meet all requirements for their classification.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in an applicable field. An advanced degree in a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of management experience in a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Skills: Excellent communication, collaboration, and social skills to facilitate team interactions and to partner with and influence team members, including Human Resources and Engineering.
Environmental Conditions & Requirements
- Physical Demands: Able to lift 40 lbs. without assistance.
- Adherence to Standards: Strict adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Safety Standards.
- Cleanroom Requirements:
- No hair products, jewelry, makeup, nail polish, perfume, exposed piercings, or facial hair allowed.
- No contact lenses allowed; prescriptive glasses will be provided.
- Work Environment:
- Loud Noises (Equipment/Machinery)
- Some degree of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs, etc.).
- Standing for the full shift.
- Strong Odors (chemical, lubricants, biological products, etc.).
- Exposure to various outside weather conditions.
- Will work with hazardous/toxic materials.
