Candidates should possess a degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience in data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems. Expertise in backend languages such as Go, Scala, Java, Node.js, or Python is required, with a strong preference for Go. A deep understanding of distributed systems, scalability challenges, and engineering best practices, including testing paradigms and resilient architecture, is essential. The ability to scale backend systems through sharding, partitioning, and horizontal scaling is necessary, along with a desire to ship code and see it run in production. Team player skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, iterative environment are also crucial. Bonus points include authored open-source libraries, contributions to the open-source community, and existing exposure to Go, Scala, AWS, Cassandra, Kafka, and OpenSearch.
The Senior Backend Engineer will lead backend engineering efforts from prototypes to large-scale applications, designing, developing, documenting, testing, deploying, operating, and enhancing resilient and fault-tolerant services. They will take ownership of deliverables, work on cross-team platform initiatives, and troubleshoot critical production issues during on-call rotations. Responsibilities also include triaging system issues, debugging by analyzing root causes and impact, mentoring other developers, and continuously re-evaluating the product to improve architecture, performance, and stability.
