Wordly is a fast-growing global team seeking a Senior Backend Engineer. In this role, you'll contribute to architecting and implementing software solutions across Wordly’s technology stack, supporting existing services and developing new features for our end-users’ real-time translation needs. You may work as an individual contributor or lead a small engineering team, responsible for planning and executing technical work, and guiding engineering processes to ensure high-quality software delivery.

Requirements

  • Experience: 4+ years of hands-on experience in architecting, implementing, and delivering software engineering solutions from set product requirements.
  • Leadership: 2+ years of experience in leading software development work in some capacity.
  • Frameworks: Experience working with dependency injection frameworks such as Micronaut, Spring Boot, etc.
  • Version Control: Experience using the Git version control system.
  • Programming Languages: A deep understanding of the Java and/or Kotlin programming languages.
  • Remote Work: Comfortable working with a fully remote team.
  • Self-Motivation: Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Solution Development: Be hands-on in architecting and implementing software solutions from a given set of requirements, either as an individual contributor or as a technical lead.
  • Technical Planning: Create technical work plans and execute on those plans to meet individual business objectives.
  • Maintenance: Assist in maintaining existing backend services.
  • Guidance: Have a significant voice in guiding Wordly’s engineering processes.

Desired Qualifications

  • Microservices: Familiarity with microservice architectures.
  • Messaging/Streaming: Experience with distributed messaging brokers and/or event streaming platforms such as RabbitMQ, ZeroMQ, Kafka, etc.
  • NoSQL Databases: Experience with distributed NoSQL databases such as Mongo, Cassandra, etc.
  • Caching: Experience with distributed caches such as Redis, Valkey, etc.
  • CI/CD: Experience in setting up CI/CD pipelines in Jenkins, GitLab, TravisCI, etc.
  • Audio Streams: Manipulating real-time audio streams.
  • Node.js: Developing Node.js applications.
  • Education: B.S. degree in Computer Science or equivalent from an accredited institution.
