Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred (in lieu of degree, additional related experience may be accepted)
Knowledge of sales tax procedures/laws and accounting principles
Skilled in Google suite applications and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
Demonstrated ability to utilize financial applications within SAP/ERP software
Exhibits customer-focused behavior such as building positive relationships

Responsibilities

Manage customer account disputes for multiple states, prioritizing to ensure efficient and accurate resolution; provide analysis and assistance with nonpayment issues and resolve root causes; cross-trained to manage non-tax disputes
Utilize research tools and critical thinking to determine proper taxability of customers and transactions; use independent judgment to evaluate customer taxability status against tax guidelines, balancing liability and customer satisfaction
Research, understand, interpret, and communicate sales and use tax laws to internal and external customers
Establish and maintain quality relationships with branch managers, account managers, and area sales managers; involve regional managers and vice presidents, providing clarification and advice on issues and potential liability
Review and approve exemption certificates provided by customers; maintain all certificates and correspondence
Review customer transactions via SAP billing block report and SAP tax override report; assist branches to resolve daily tax issues, blocks, and overrides
Create custom accounts in sales tax software (Vertex) to meet customer-specific taxing requirements
Calculate liabilities and file monthly and quarterly excise tax returns
Manage effective internal/external client relationships; proactively interact to reduce new disputes
Approve and process tax credit invoice requests for short pays on invoices due to sales taxes
Provide vendors with properly executed exemption certificates where applicable
