Candidates must have at least 2 years of experience in people management with a product engineering team and experience leading teams through the entire product development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, observability, release strategies, and incident management. A background in systems engineering at the database architecture, compute engines, or compiler level is required, along with proven expertise in C, C++, Rust, or Java. A degree in Computer Science or a similar field is necessary. Experience working asynchronously as part of a fully-remote, distributed team and strong communication skills to convey complex engineering tradeoffs are also essential. Startup or scale-up experience is beneficial.
The Engineering Manager will build, lead, and coach a team of engineers to deliver excellent developer experiences, empowering them with business context and supporting their ownership of the team roadmap, product development lifecycle, and technical excellence. They will partner with Product and Design to establish a long-term vision for data practitioner workflows, coach engineers in product thinking, quality, and system design, and build individualized growth plans. The role involves working with peer managers to refine organizational processes like hiring and onboarding, addressing customer needs in partnership with Customer Support, and contributing to architecture decisions, code reviews, and occasional coding to stay close to the codebase.
