Role Objective: The Software Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality of software deployed into Real-World Data & Scientific Solutions environments. This involves performing automated and manual tests to verify software fitness for purpose before release. Reporting to the Head of IT, the role focuses on quality assurance testing of internal and external products, identifying and resolving defects, and ensuring products meet defined requirements. The Software Engineer will lead and develop all testing aspects for the SaaS Vantage solution and may interact with clients and stakeholders.

This is a hybrid role with a primary focus on testing, but also requires technical experience to support developers in daily operational tasks. This includes assisting with monthly data updates, monitoring service availability, supporting analysts with data requirements, and other operational duties, offering an opportunity to develop skills in a DevOps role.

Responsibilities Include

  • Understanding existing and new products to test all functionality.
  • Creating and documenting automated and manual test plans/scripts for the SaaS Vantage product range.
  • Ensuring new products meet defined requirements and specifications, obtaining sign-off for deployment.
  • Executing manual and automated test cases and analyzing results.
  • Performing all levels of testing: System, Integration, and Regression.
  • Recording and reporting defects to developers and management.
  • Managing and prioritizing software bugs.
  • Conducting post-release regression testing for maintenance releases and retaining audit records.
  • Managing test environments by controlling and recording deployed applications.
  • Daily monitoring of hardware platforms and Vantage products for health and performance, escalating issues.

Ad-hoc Responsibilities

  • Monitoring, responding to, resolving, and escalating calls logged in Vantage's Incident management system within SLAs.
  • Ensuring Information Governance (IG) and IT security standards are maintained.
  • Performing any other reasonable duties related to the role.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Proven experience as a Quality Assurance Tester or similar role for complex systems.
  • Experience in Service Delivery within a development team.
  • Ability to build and manage automated test scripts using software tools.
  • Working knowledge of test management software (e.g., qTest, Zephyr, Bugzilla, Cucumber).
  • Good understanding of SQL.
  • Good working knowledge of Java, HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
