AstralAt is building next-generation developer tools for the Python ecosystem, having created Ruff (a Python linter and formatter) and uv (a Python package manager). They are now developing a state-of-the-art type checker and hosted services. This role involves building their first hosted product, a full-stack, greenfield effort integrated with their open-source tooling. The candidate will significantly influence the technical stack and direction of the product.

Requirements

  • Deep expertise in building highly performant and robust cloud infrastructure at scale.
  • Ability to apply this experience in a startup environment, prioritizing key decisions and investments.
  • Demonstrated experience with choosing and managing hosting and cloud providers.
  • Experience with deployment systems and cloud storage strategies.
  • Experience with backend API design and database infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of on-prem, Bring Your Own Cloud, and other deployment models.

Responsibilities

  • Choosing our hosting and cloud provider(s).
  • Building out our deployment system.
  • Designing (and productionizing) our cloud storage and content serving strategies.
  • Designing (and productionizing) our backend API.
  • Designing (and productionizing) our database schema and infrastructure.
  • Navigating on-prem, Bring Your Own Cloud, and other deployment models.
