Requirements

Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills to dive deep into unknown codebases, follow stacktraces and figure out the root cause
Quick learner who can abstract away the complexity of a project to find and fix problems confidently in production
Comfortable doing support every day and being proactive when support is quiet
Breadth of programming knowledge spanning object-oriented JVM languages, functional programming, data processing frameworks, and web user interfaces

Responsibilities

Address ad-hoc and unplanned work requests involving code changes, custom code, scripting, and spinning up small prototypes
Context switch regularly, especially for higher priority tasks
Make decisions on prioritizing new tasks or delegating to colleagues based on knowledge and bandwidth; emphasize teamwork
Perform production engineering: document, analyze, and implement optimizations for inefficiencies in live systems
Ensure operational excellence by appropriately testing changes and focusing on reliability, scalability, and maintainability
Be proactive when support is quiet
