Position Overview

Confluent is seeking a Federal Site Reliability Engineer to join our team. We are building a platform that revolutionizes data movement, enabling companies to react faster, build smarter, and deliver dynamic experiences. This role offers the unique opportunity to work with key agencies of the public sector, ensuring highly performant and reliable systems that empower real-time decision-making through Confluent Cloud. Confluent Cloud is a Software as a Service (SaaS) model delivering a complete end-to-end streaming experience.

About the Role

As a Federal Site Reliability Engineer at Confluent, you will be instrumental in delivering robust systems that allow these agencies to solve real-time problems using their data through Confluent Cloud.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Cloud Architecture and Engineering teams to enhance the operational resiliency of Confluent Cloud systems used by federal agencies.
  • Collaborate across teams to verify and deploy production changes to Confluent Cloud systems and infrastructure.
  • Actively partner with peer engineering teams, engaging during incidents using an “escort model” to ensure compliance with FedRAMP data handling requirements.
  • Maintain critical monitoring systems used for triage and escalations in the federal space.
  • Improve automated recovery processes.
  • Adhere to established incident and change management processes.
  • Drive continuous improvements in operational practices.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required to comply with U.S. federal government regulations.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Expertise in Cloud Native technologies and experience operating production services in the cloud.
  • Strong fundamentals of Distributed Systems and their design.
  • Deep knowledge of Kubernetes and containerization.
  • Experience with telemetry tooling for monitoring production systems.
  • Confidence in problem-solving and troubleshooting critical services.
  • Proficiency with scripting and automation (e.g., Go, Java, Python, Bash).
  • Working knowledge of infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Cloudformation, AWS CDK, Pulumi).
  • Exceptional teamwork, collaboration skills, and the ability to act critically with minimal supervision in a remote-first environment.
  • Experience with a rotating on-call schedule for 24/7 support.
  • BS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
