Strong knowledge of Spark, Databricks, or other distributed computing platforms for ML training is necessary. Experience with AWS and cloud-native architectures is expected. A background in software engineering with a transition into data engineering is preferred, demonstrating the ability to apply SWE rigor to data platform design. Proven ability to enhance developer experience through holistic automated solutions and a track record of mentorship and technical leadership at the organizational level are crucial. Familiarity with data governance, classification, retention, and compliance frameworks such as SOC2, GDPR, and CCPA is also required.
The Senior Staff Data Engineer will design, develop, and deliver scalable data platforms to enhance the developer experience for data scientists and ML engineers. They will solve complex technical problems, influence platform direction and architecture, and connect tools and systems into cohesive, automated workflows. Key responsibilities include leading the implementation of core platform technologies like dbt, Airflow, and distributed computing frameworks, and driving the adoption of scalable solutions. The role involves mentoring engineers, staying updated on new technologies through R&D, and ensuring data governance and compliance standards are met. Collaboration with Data Scientists, ML Engineers, SREs, and Product Managers to align platforms and APIs with user needs is also a core duty.
