You will collaborate on cross-functional teams to build scalable systems for government, designing, implementing, and delivering services used by millions of Americans. The Senior Data Engineer role is responsible for developing end-to-end systems for a major government partner. The goal is to modernize a legacy enterprise platform, improving public-facing processes and experiences to provide users with easier, real-time access to necessary programs and services in a user-friendly and uncomplicated manner. This role will be involved in all project phases, from strategy and planning through post-production testing and support.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 6 engineers.
  • Collaborate with fellow Nava engineers to design, review, and build well-crafted software.
  • Work in an agile manner to efficiently ship new features that meet user needs.
  • Design and develop scalable data ingestion and processing pipelines.
  • Implement large-scale data ecosystems within cloud-based platforms, including data management and governance for structured and unstructured data.
  • Implement data validation and quality checks to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional project teams to gather business requirements and translate them into detailed technical specifications.
  • Assist government partners in developing data engineering applications and pipelines to enable data services and processing capabilities.
  • Participate in software design and code reviews.
  • Maintain security and privacy standards in all aspects of the data pipeline.
  • Participate in hiring activities, such as submitting referrals, conducting interviews, and attending interview debriefs, as needed.

Requirements

  • Open to Data Engineers.
  • At least 7 years of experience working in an agile, multidisciplinary team environment, preferably designing and building medium to large-scale systems on Cloud platforms.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading and mentoring engineering teams.
  • At least 3 years of experience building data services on AWS.
  • Experience building large-scale data services with FHIR/HL7 in healthcare.
  • Experience with big data technologies such as Apache Spark, AWS Glue, AWS Athena, Databricks, AWS Redshift, AWS S3, and AWS RDS.
  • Proficient in writing applications and APIs in Python, Go, or Java.
  • Tenacity to dive into problems and iterate in working code.
  • Equal parts systems thinker and advocate for users.
  • Highly resourceful, reliable, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to think strategically about trade-offs and short-term vs. long-term solutions.
