About Platform Engineering at Monzo

The Platform Collective builds and maintains the infrastructure, tools, and processes that empower Monzo's technology teams. Within this collective, the Infrastructure Platform team is responsible for running the Kubernetes clusters, service mesh, networking setup, and managing cloud environment interactions. The team comprises backend engineers and cloud infrastructure experts who leverage their skills to manage cloud infrastructure.

Infrastructure Platform Team Focus Areas:

• Cloud Infrastructure Management: Building and centrally managing cloud infrastructure across AWS and GCP, including components like Kubernetes and Envoy.
• Enabling Other Teams: Abstracting cloud infrastructure complexity to help other platform teams succeed in solving customer problems.

This team is crucial for supporting Monzo's ambition to grow to 20 million customers, expand product offerings, and scale globally.

What You'll Be Working With:

Monzo heavily relies on the following tools and technologies. Direct experience is not required, and interviews can be conducted in any language.

• Go: For writing application code and building platform management services.
• Kubernetes: The primary platform for most workloads.
• AWS & GCP: Managing cloud infrastructure across both platforms.
• Terraform: For managing cloud-deployed resources.
• Envoy Proxy: For the RPC service mesh.

Requirements:

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

• Experience working with AWS and/or GCP.
• Experience working with Kubernetes.
• Excitement to build a platform that enables success for everyone at Monzo.
• Comfort working in a team that deals with ambiguity.
• A natural inclination to solve problems through automation.
• Some experience with strongly typed languages, writing and working on backend software.
• Curiosity about systems and a drive to investigate issues deeply.

We are looking for L40 & L50 Platform Engineers.

The Interview Process:

Our interview process typically involves three main stages:

1. Initial Call
2. Take-home task or pair coding exercise
3. Final interview: Including a system design and a behavioral interview.

The average process takes around 4 weeks.
