Requirements

Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree in Taxation or a related field, with a CPA designation being preferred. A minimum of 8 years of experience in US indirect taxes is required, specifically including expertise in technology, e-commerce, and telecommunications transaction taxes such as FUSF, E911, PUC, and FET. Prior experience with Big 4 public accounting firms and industry experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

The Senior Manager, Indirect Tax will serve as the primary point of contact for indirect tax matters across Brightspeed companies. This role involves driving the indirect tax planning and compliance cycle for all state and local jurisdictions, including managing communications taxes, sales & use tax, property tax, and business licenses, often with the support of third-party firms. Responsibilities include ensuring accurate and timely filing of US transaction tax returns, leading the telecommunication transaction tax exemption process, and resolving billing discrepancies with AR, AP, and IT. The position requires collaboration with Product Development and Sales teams to assign correct service/material coding for tax engine mapping, preparing monthly account reconciliations for sales tax payable and property tax payable accounts, and monitoring business and legislative changes to assess their impact on Brightspeed. Additionally, the role involves building out a controls framework and risk policies, documenting indirect tax risk/management procedures, managing all US indirect tax audits, and advising other departments on tax accounting and indirect tax matters during the accounting close process and for special projects.
