Requirements

  • 4+ years of engineering management experience with a total of 8+ years of experience
  • Track record of leading distributed systems engineering and operations teams in software companies
  • Demonstrated expertise in building and running a platform in multiple locations at billions of events/week or greater scale (on-premise or public cloud)
  • Specific expertise in highly available data architectures across multiple availability zones highly desired
  • Passionate about engineering hygiene and operational excellence, with know-how to build an engineering organization that delivers it
  • Familiar with agile processes, continuous integration, and test automation
  • Strategic thinker as it relates to scale and removing humans from the loop
  • Thrives operating in broad scope, from conception through continuous operation of 24x7 services to defined SLAs
  • Ability to distill complex and ambiguous situations into actionable plans
  • Represents customers’ perspectives and plans for their success
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for onboarding, offsites, customer engagements, and company events
  • Based in Boston or San Francisco office, hybrid model with 2-3 days onsite per week

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a team of passionate engineers, providing support and guidance for self-organization, high velocity, and predictability
  • Drive and deliver the vision for serverless SaaS and end-to-end functionality for data lake analytics platform (ingestion, data management, governance)
  • Help employees grow through career development, coaching, mentoring; guide senior contributors; create personal development plans, set goals, perform evaluations, collaborate on objectives; ensure fun at work
  • Own, operate, and maintain team’s services using Agile methodologies for continuous delivery; enhance rotating on-call incident escalation and response process
  • Represent team’s operational maturity to executives and product teams
  • Collaborate on roadmaps with Product Managers and Tech Leads for clear direction and priorities
  • Act as ambassador for Starburst, recruiting and motivating top talent
