Requirements

  • Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure tooling, especially Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes (GKE), Terraform, and ideally Crossplane
  • Understanding of infrastructure delivery as products, measuring success through adoption, clear metrics, and satisfaction—not merely as technical output
  • Strong focus on cost efficiency, sustainability, and actively reducing environmental footprint from team's decisions
  • Comfortable coordinating incident responses, handling complex operational environments, dynamic backlogs, and on-call rotations
  • Pragmatic and data-driven approach
  • Prioritizes people and relationships, showing servant leadership qualities, empathy, and excellent coaching and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and empower a highly skilled cloud infrastructure team of 8 engineers, fostering a culture of trust, autonomy, and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues in CloudOps Group, including SRE and Engineering Productivity teams, partnering with Staff Engineers and stakeholders to build relevant, adopted infrastructure services
  • Handle operational responsibilities: coordinating incidents, maintaining calm, and managing an effective and robust on-call rotation
  • Treat infrastructure as a product, developing clear metrics-driven approaches to measuring service usage and satisfaction (e.g., custom Kubernetes resources for provisioning Buckets, Key-Value stores, databases, protected public endpoints, secure privilege-escalation tooling)
  • Prioritize and evolve the team’s roadmap iteratively, based on feedback, direct observations, and clear adoption metrics, balancing operations and platform development
  • Take ownership of cost-efficiency and sustainability initiatives within infrastructure, reducing engineering costs and carbon footprint
  • Embrace iteration and experimentation, supporting the team in rapidly learning from successes and failures
  • Help the team, platform, and technical organization grow and evolve on the existing toolset (Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Kubernetes (GKE), Cloudflare, Terraform, Crossplane, Backstage, custom CLI, etc.)
