Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Director to lead the development of world-class traffic management capabilities, crucial for scaling our operations and ensuring reliability. This role requires a leader who can set a compelling vision while also diving deep into the technical details and understanding our unique business and systems.

Responsibilities

• Vision Setting: Define the future of traffic management, capacity planning, and load testing practices at Affirm.
• Team Building: Recruit and lead a team of exceptional engineers with expertise in traffic management concepts (e.g., load shedding, rate limiting, caching).
• Peak Season Planning: Lead the annual peak season planning initiatives across the entire technology organization.
• Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with and support the broader engineering organization, understanding their needs and deploying developed capacity planning and load testing tools.
• Roadmap Contribution: Actively participate in the engineering-wide roadmap planning process.

Requirements

• Proven experience managing traffic management, load testing, or capacity planning at an organization serving hundreds of millions of users.
• Extensive expertise in designing and implementing large-scale traffic shaping, cluster management, and load shedding systems.
• Demonstrated success in leading and delivering complex, multi-year engineering infrastructure projects.
• A track record of successfully developing, hiring, and partnering with principal software engineers.
• Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to mentor and manage high-potential engineers and emerging leaders.
• Detail-oriented with strong opinions on technology development and a commitment to day-to-day execution and delivery.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating vision to teams, engineering leadership, senior executives, and partners.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base Pay Grade: V
• Equity Grade: 21
• USA Base Pay Range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT): $330,000 - $370,000 per year
• USA Base Pay Range (All Other U.S. States): $295,000 - $335,000 per year
• Total Compensation: Includes base pay, equity rewards, and monthly stipends for health, wellness, and technology spending.
