Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years related work experience in a risk-related function within financial services
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Advanced degree or certification preferred
  • Strong background in control methodology and risk management frameworks (i.e., COSO) in financial services
  • Leadership experience with a multidisciplinary team preferred
  • Experience designing and implementing risk management frameworks across disparate business lines
  • Strong executive presence and ability to influence across all levels of management

Responsibilities

  • Coach, guide, develop and inspire a team of highly engaged crew, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, high performance, and continuous improvement. Provide guidance and training as necessary to develop crew. Set performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures
  • Provide strategic leadership in defining and implementing a risk management framework to be executed by a team of Line 2 risk professionals. Direct Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) activities, that may include monitoring, reporting, and quality assurance. Oversee corporate policy governance and adherence to risk-specific policies. Partner with senior business leaders and stakeholders to educate as well as provide risk advice on enterprise initiatives
  • Oversee department preparation and coordination efforts leading up to board and senior staff enterprise risk discussions
  • Lead the development of risk policies and procedures. Partner closely with leaders across the enterprise as well as colleagues in other risk and control and lines of defense functions across Vanguard to ensure the consistent implementation of risk standards and practices
  • Set standards and metrics for operational efficiency. Develop and deliver required reporting on enterprise risk metrics to business leaders and Vanguard's Chief Risk Officer
  • Lead strategic risk support related to business initiatives and new product launches
  • Maintain an expert knowledge and awareness of the investment industry. Stay abreast of current market, regulatory and industry relevant news while building agility into risk management activities to drive responsiveness
  • Serve as an expert and key resource related to risk issues, utilizing deep expertise to lead a team and develop a response to complex risk-related issues
  • Own the Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) technology platform (Archer) and is responsible for strategic oversight and prioritization of technology needs and enhancements. Manage the cross-divisional relationship between Global Risk & Security (GR&S) and IT to ensure alignment on system capabilities, delivery timelines, and enterprise risk enablement
  • Participate in special projects and performs other duties as assigned
