Position Overview:

Trella Health is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to join our technology team. As Trella Health’s first Database Administrator, you will play a critical role in building the foundation for Trella’s future data strategy. This is not just an operations role: you will drive proactive architectural database design decisions, lead database optimization efforts, and partner with our Data Engineering and Software Engineering teams to standardize and scale how we manage and govern data. If you have a passion for data and technology, a strong analytical mindset, and the ability to help establish data management and maintenance processes, we hope you apply!

Location: This is a remote-first position. While we have a strong preference for candidates located in or near our regional hubs (Atlanta, Nashville, Philadelphia), we will consider qualified applicants based in other U.S. locations.

Reports to: Director, IT Operations

Responsibilities:

As a Senior Database Administrator at Trella, you will:

  • Own the full lifecycle of database administration for mission-critical systems: designing, installing, configuring, and maintaining database systems in Snowflake and Postgres, including monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting issues.
  • Lead performance tuning, index optimization, and capacity planning initiatives.
  • Provide a seamless flow of information by keeping the database running smoothly.
  • Design and implement data security and integrity controls, including implementation of access controls, backups, and recovery plans.
  • Identify and implement database requirements for new or existing applications by working collaboratively with other teams.
  • Optimize database performance and efficiency by evaluating and recommending new database technologies.
  • Support users and developers by resolving data-related technical issues and troubleshooting queries by guiding them with best practices.
  • Execute regular database maintenance tasks, including database defragmentation, backups, and database replication.
  • Help guide long-term data architecture, governance, and compliance best practices.
  • Design and execute disaster recovery plans and procedures to ensure database availability during system outage.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including data standards, procedures, and definitions to scale institutional knowledge.

Requirements:

This job might be a fit for you if you have:

  • 7+ years of experience in database administration or in a similar role.
  • Experience in database backup, disaster recovery planning, performance optimization, and data security.
  • Knowledge of database management systems such as MySQL, MariaDB and Postgres. Experience with Snowflake is strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to provide quick solutions to issues.
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills to work in a team environment.
