Site Reliability Engineer - Postgres

Position Overview

Supabase, an Open Source and fully remote company, is seeking an experienced Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to manage the infrastructure of our Postgres databases. We currently manage over 1 million Postgres instances and are experiencing rapid growth.

Responsibilities

• Help build and enhance the Supabase Postgres offering.
• Focus on improving the reliability of database backups and recovery processes.
• Implement high availability solutions with minimal downtime failover.
• Operationalize database management for users by implementing maintenance windows, blue-green deployments for database upgrades, etc.
• Help users self-serve debugging of their databases by improving database observability.
• Improve the performance of provisioned Postgres databases and expose configuration options for users to further tune their database performance.
• Improve system architecture to reduce costs while balancing security and performance.
• Design CI/CD systems to accelerate deployments with robust change and release management processes.
• Handle escalated storage support tickets and share on-call responsibilities for the storage service.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in SRE/DevOps/Cloud Infrastructure.
• 3+ years of experience building with Golang.
• Experience in designing multi-tenant database solutions, with a focus on failover, fault-tolerance, and disaster recovery.
• Experience managing large deployments on AWS.
• Knowledge of networking principles.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
• Experience with tools in the Postgres ecosystem such as pgbackrest, barman, Patroni, Stolon, etc. is a plus.
• Experience orchestrating stateful workloads at scale or using a Postgres operator (e.g., from Zalando or Crunchy) is a plus.

Application Process

3. Follow-up Interviews: If you pass the screening, you will be invited to up to four follow-up interviews, typically 20-45 minutes each, usually 1:1. These interviews will be with:

   • A member of the growth or engineering team (depending on the role)
   • A member of your immediate team or function
4. Decision: After interviews, the team will discuss candidates. They may:
   • Ask for one or two follow-up questions via email or a quick call.
   • Proceed directly to making an offer.
