About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Senior Data Engineer to join our growing data team. You will be instrumental in building, optimizing, and maintaining data pipelines and architectures that power our analytics, reporting, and AI initiatives. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in data integration, data warehousing, and large-scale data processing systems.

As a Data Engineer at Hatch, you will contribute to a team at the forefront of AI, systems design, and user experience. This role is ideal for builders who excel at scale, lead by example, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, construct, test, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes.
  • Build and maintain robust data architectures, including databases, data lakes, and data warehouses.
  • Collaborate effectively with data analysts, data scientists, and software engineers to fulfill data requirements.
  • Optimize data workflows for enhanced performance and reliability.
  • Implement and uphold data quality, validation, and governance practices.
  • Integrate data from diverse sources, including APIs, databases, and flat files.
  • Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date documentation for data pipelines and schemas.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot pipeline performance and failures proactively.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience:
    • 5+ years of data engineering experience, with a significant portion in a senior or staff engineer capacity.
    • Experience working closely with or supporting ML and LLM-powered systems in production environments.
    • Familiarity with ML model inference, vector databases, prompt engineering, and API integrations for LLMs.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in SQL.
    • Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Golang, or Scala.
    • Experience with ETL tools like Apache Airflow, Talend, or DBT.
    • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS or GCP) and services such as S3, Redshift, BigQuery, or Snowflake.
    • Experience with distributed data processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark, Kafka).
    • Strong understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, and data governance best practices.
  • Expertise:
    • Deep expertise in Python, Go, or another backend language.
    • Experience with microservices is a plus.
    • Solid understanding of databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Redis) and data architecture principles.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent collaboration and communication skills; ability to elevate team members.
    • Product-oriented mindset with a focus on building systems that address user needs.
    • Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical projects or cross-team initiatives.
