Requirements

Candidates must possess a JD from a top law school and an active U.S. state bar membership. A minimum of 7 years of experience with financial services laws and regulations, gained at a top-tier law firm, in-house, or with a regulator/self-regulatory organization, is required. Deep knowledge of U.S. securities and derivatives regulation is essential, along with exceptional analytical, writing, and organizational skills. The ability to provide clear, practical guidance on complex legal concepts and to operate independently in a fast-paced, remote-first environment is necessary. Fintech or crypto in-house experience, hands-on licensing and registration application experience, and international regulatory or cross-border advisory experience are considered advantageous.

Responsibilities

The Senior Counsel – Regulatory will drive Kraken's regulatory strategy across U.S. federal and state regimes. They will provide actionable legal guidance on regulatory matters, including strategy, licensing, registration, inquiries, and ongoing obligations. This role involves supporting global expansion and new product launches with forward-looking regulatory advice. Responsibilities include partnering with regulators, policymakers, and industry leaders on digital asset issues, monitoring global regulatory developments, and crafting policy positions. The Senior Counsel will also represent Kraken in high-stakes regulatory discussions and advise on the regulatory implications of M&A, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships.
