Candidates must be U.S. citizens with over 6 years of experience in building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems. Experience with ClickHouse, relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL), or NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra) databases is required, along with proficiency in Kubernetes tools (Helm, Kustomize, operators, Istio, serviceMesh) and containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift) in government environments. A strong understanding of airgapped architectures, data isolation, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, or on-prem equivalents) is necessary. Proficiency in Python or Go for automation and integration, excellent communication, strong problem-solving, and production debugging skills are also essential. A passion for efficiency, availability, scalability, data governance, and a high level of responsibility, ownership, and accountability are expected.
The Senior Cloud Engineer will design and develop a highly available, scalable, and secure ClickHouse Cloud tailored for airgapped systems, building novel deployment automation for disconnected systems. They will work closely with Dataplane and Core teams to ensure software parity, solve unique scaling challenges in classified/regulated environments, and design/deploy ClickHouse Cloud on Kubernetes and containerized environments. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining Helm Charts, operators, and Kubernetes manifests, implementing repeatable automation for infrastructure components, and optimizing ClickHouse Cloud database performance and storage for various deployments. The role also involves integrating secure authentication, encryption, and access control mechanisms, developing technical documentation, troubleshooting performance and security issues, and automating deployments and lifecycle management using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or CI/CD pipelines.
High-speed column-oriented database management system
ClickHouse provides a high-speed, column-oriented database management system designed for developers and businesses that manage large-scale data. Its primary product processes analytical queries quickly by storing data from the same columns together, making it significantly faster than traditional row-oriented databases, especially in Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) scenarios. ClickHouse stands out from competitors by offering a free, open-source database that can be deployed on local machines or in the cloud, along with a fully managed service on platforms like AWS, GCP, and Microsoft Azure. The company's goal is to deliver a cost-effective solution that simplifies data management for its clients, as evidenced by user feedback highlighting substantial cost savings.
