Pythian is seeking an experienced SAP ASE Database Administrator to join their globally dispersed team. The role involves providing comprehensive support for database and application infrastructure to a variety of Pythian's customers. Candidates with SAP ASE experience are primary, with an openness to learning SAP Basis Administration.
Responsibilities
- Continuously review capacity and predictive reports to efficiently allocate system resources and future capacity.
- Install, upgrade, and patch multiple versions of Sybase ASE.
- Manage incident responses, documenting and developing solutions to mitigate issues.
- Implement and verify backup and recovery strategies, including scripts and automation.
- Tune SQL for minimal resource consumption, optimal data access, and response times.
- Ensure adherence to database security and compliance standards.
- Coordinate database maintenance requirements and schedules with application support teams.
- Automate database tasks for continuous service improvement.
- Communicate with customers to articulate database issues and drive resolution.
- Participate in on-call duties and provide 24/7 support.
Requirements
- Primary Skill: SAP ASE (Sybase ASE) experience.
- Desirable: Openness to learn SAP Basis Administration.
- Experience: 5 to 10 years of experience as a Sybase DBA.
- Expertise: SME level knowledge of Sybase ASE, Sybase 16, and Replication Server in large and critical environments.
- High Availability/Disaster Recovery: Experience with Sybase Replication Server, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Operating Systems: Good understanding of Unix/Linux environments.
- Scripting: Shell Script and Perl Scripting ability.
- SQL: Solid SQL and T-SQL skills.
- Cloud: Knowledgeable of Cloud Technologies and experience working within private/public cloud environments is a plus.
