Requirements

  • Experience in implementing and enforcing Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) policies, programs, and systems in a plant/manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of OSHA compliance, including internal assessments, corrective actions, and coaching
  • Familiarity with safety-specific policies such as lockout tag-out, PIT operation, fall protection, behavioral observation programs
  • Understanding of Process Safety Management (PSM) program and environmental considerations for refrigeration units
  • Knowledge of waste streams management ("Reduce, Reuse, Recycle"), effluent management, pretreatment systems, and environmental permitting
  • Ability to establish safety culture strategy and use metrics to drive short- and long-term safety strategies
  • Experience in managing safety training for new hires, annual re-training, and temp agency trainings
  • Skills in leading and mentoring EHS teams, promoting employee engagement, and holding team members accountable
  • Capability to conduct root cause analyses, lead Incident Review Board (IRB) meetings, and determine corrective/preventive actions
  • Availability for 24/7 on-call coverage for safety incidents
  • Strong communication skills for policy rollout, safety meetings, and corporate safety team participation

Responsibilities

  • Establishes the strategy for the development and sustainability of the safety culture in the plant
  • Assists with drafting and leads implementation of all environmental, health, and safety policies
  • Oversees implementation of internal OSHA compliance program, including internal assessments, corrective actions, and coaching
  • Implements and maintains the behavioral observation program and conducts observations to ensure compliance with safety policies (e.g., lockout tag-out, PIT operation, fall protection)
  • Manages communication and rollout of new policies, ensuring all impacted employees are informed and understand expectations
  • Uses environmental and safety metrics to drive short-term and long-term safety strategy
  • Assists the Continuous Improvement Manager in owning and maintaining the Process Safety Management (PSM) program and environmental considerations for refrigeration units
  • Understands site waste streams and coordinates with plant functions to "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle."
  • Oversees the plant’s effluent and manages necessary pretreatment systems and environmental permitting
  • Partners with plant and national training resources to ensure required safety training for new hires and annual re-training
  • Conducts periodic review of temp agency safety trainings for compliance
  • Assists EHS Supervisor in mentoring EHS Team
  • Ensures safety meeting issues are communicated to all team members and holds EHS team accountable for escalating issues
  • Promotes employee engagement in the safety process and participates in corporate safety team to share best practices
  • Provides 24/7 on-call coverage as escalation point for safety incidents
  • Partners with plant leadership on near miss and recordable incident investigations, including triaging individuals
  • Leads Incident Review Board (IRB) meetings with plant leadership for root cause analyses and corrective/preventive actions
